Silent Hill’s Art Director isn’t impressed with the Silent Hill HD Collection
Masahiro Ito, art director of the older Silent Hill series, was shown this screenshot comparison by a follower on twitter. His response? “Left side is HD, isn’t it? It’s poor…” Ito further responded with “It’s really a released version? Really?” When assured it was real, he exclaimed “OMG!!!!” and expressed worry that new players who played the HD release would think the original PS2 titles were “bad”.
Ito’s main concern was the lack of the fog visuals from the HD release. The lack of fog allows you to see the end of the game world and also creates some pretty bad problems, like the rope extending from the pier which seemingly disappears into thin air since there is no longer any fog to hide it. Besides that, it also creates a far less drastic atmosphere.
All of this before the rerecorded voice acting from the games as well.
